Membership Criteria

Regular Membership

An individual with a Level 4 Qualification or higher in Psychotherapy, Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Coaching, or a combination of these fields, may apply to join as a Regular Member, provided they meet the following requirements:

  1. Credit Value and Study Hours
  • The qualification must be worth at least 37 credits or 370 notional learning hours (NLH). NLH includes all study and assessment time, representing the estimated total time needed to complete the qualification.
  1. Guided Learning
  • It must include at least 120 hours of guided learning, which refers to direct instruction from a lecturer or instructor, typically delivered in person.
  1. Qualification Level
  • The qualification must be at Level 4 or higher on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), a system in the UK for recognising skills and qualifications.
  1. Practical and Vocational Focus
  • The qualification must be practical and vocational, designed to prepare individuals to work directly with clients. Academic knowledge alone is insufficient; the qualification must equip the individual with the skills needed to practice professionally.

Important Note:

Degrees in psychology, mental health, and wellness can provide valuable and relevant knowledge to the field of Psychotherapy. However, they do not qualify as practical, vocational qualifications for the purpose of working with clients in a professional setting. (For alternative pathways, see information on Student Membership and Affiliate Membership)
